Transportation is primarily funded from federal and state user fees, such as gas taxes and vehicle registration fees that are deposited in the Michigan Transportation Fund.
Approximately 74% of Commercial trucks pay reduced rates. Logging trucks, for example typically pay fewer registration fees than a typical passenger car. John Zang feels corporations should pay their fair share.
Michigan’s load limit for trucks is more than twice federal standards. These excessive load limits help trucking companies but damage Michigan roads and bridges. John Zang feels weight limits should be lowered to prevent road and bridge damage.
I travel rural roads. Approximately half of all rural roads are in poor condition. I see the issues that need to be fixed and I am willing to make hard decisions to fund infrastructure --- Fix the roads. For 30 years Republicans in the State House and Senate have defunded infrastructure, including roads. John Zang intends to fund infrastructure.
